Hello ! Yes were here, welcome to CPUK ! There could be a number of issues, some of the simple ones include binding brakes, incorrect tyres presures, faulty handbrake. I would be inclined to look at the front brake calipers - get it jacked up and see if all is free - just becuase the brakes work doesnt mean they are not binding and making huge amounts of extra work for the engine.

If timing was out then you'd experience either heavy knocking aes it would be too far advanced, or if too retarted lots of white smoke. Maybe time for recon injectors then if the spray pattern is that bad? £25+vat each at Lucas UK, takes about a day to be overhalled.

Hi, i dont know if this will help, i have a 406 turbo diesel and i had the same problem as you, no power, i thought the turbo had gone, it was that bad, i had the car diognostic checked and the fault came back as the fuel injection pump that was at fault, i sourced a new one via ebay, had it fitted and matched to the car and, hey presto, full power again. Just a thought. Dez.

A drop of petrol will do the job, and years ago petrol was added to diesel to prevent the fuel waxing during the winter. A proper injector overhall will gain new nozzles and a perfect spray pattern, petrol will not give that if they are permantly worn! really depends on how much you want to spend !
