Hi there is no universal joint ! It is direct drive from the gearbox to the axle. There is a bearing in the middle supporting the shaft within the torque tube. I would check the 4 hex bolts on each end of the tube, as if these are loose it will allow the gearbox to shunt against the end of the tube, and hence the clunking noise. The top two bolts are difficult to get at... good luck.
PS don't forget to grease the propshaft bearing regularly, a nipple is provided half way along the torque tube.

Hi, don't mean to be a smart arse but if it's an estate it does have a UJ. If it is an estate the easist way to get at the UJ is to drop the axle and prop together off the back of the box.The UJ's housed in the spherical bearing at the front of the prop to allow the solid rear axle to move up and down!! hope that helps.
Regards andy

Hey thanks andy and 504gld Actually it is an estate i should have mentioned it. Andy you say " drop the axle and prop together off the back of the box" you mean jack the body up and take off the back axle and undo those hex bolts to seperate it from the gear box? I think that what you mean, its just that its cold and gonna rain and I am gonna be on my back in the mud again and was hoping for an easy way out!!...hugh
