Heater control on 405

The heater on my 405 is not working. The matrix has been replaced (i'm led to believe). There is no resistance on the heater control slide switch - however after taking the heater unit out i'm at a loss to as to how to fix it. Is the problem likely to be with the control unit or something else? If its with the control unit is there any way of finding out (any documentation) about how it works/how to fix it? Or is it better to buy a replacement part?
Any advice gratefully received - its getting very cold!
