Hi, new to this website. Been looking for a while but now i've plucked up the courage to join! Great website and a credit to all involved, well done. I have a problem though with my little pug 206 1.1 lx. She keeps revving all by herself when i'm driving. Its in at the local main dealer and they cant fix it They have replaced the throttle potentiometer, stepper motor and used a donor engine ecu but has not cured the revving. I had a friend try a second hand throttle body previously but this did not help either. It is now starting to cost me lots so thought there might be someone on here that may be able to help. It only does it from cold. If you go on a 15 mile trip it doesnt do it but once it cools down again it will start revving on its own again. Please help a pug lover out if you can, Thanks L

My 1.1i 106 does this from time to time too, but regardless of whether it is warm or cool. I'll just stop at some lights or a junction and the engine will rev itself up to around 2500rpm and drop. It has never caused me any problems though, and it only happens now and again so I havn't bothered to resolve it. Just one of those things!

Isn't their an air temperature sensor in the fuel air mixing bit (technical term!!) If it only happens from cold it could be misreading teh air temperature and sending too much fuel in.

Sod that, stick it on motorbike throttle bodies and programmable engine management! You could probably have done that with the bleedin' money you spent

How about a sticking accelerator cable?
A mates 406 had one pain to change, though the usual symptom is over reving all the time.

My 104Zs is doing the same at the moment. It is almost certainly a sticking throttle cable in my case as I have absolutely no engine management to go wrong, just two great big DCOE carbs that go out of tune every week! Anyway at the moment the car revs up to around 2500rpm when I pull up at a junction or lights. A quick blip on the throttle sorts it out but I need to oil the linkages.

Suppose thats possible. But wouldnt the main dealer have checked that before ecu's and sensor swops?

Wouldn;t have thought it was a sticking throttle cable...not in may case anyway, don't know about you Hardpug. But mine revs and drops and revs again itself, on the rare occasions when it does it. It will sit there happily in traffic, in neutral and rev up and down between 800rpm and 2500rpm!

I once had that happen on my old car (Rover 820i)... Think we changed the throttle potentiometer, as one of the carbon rods had warn down.
It sound as though something is miss reading somewhere... probably some dirt on a sensor!

Update: Main dealer cant fix so they are giving it back and advising me to get a diagnostic specialist out to have a look at it!!!! What are they going to be able to do that a main dealer cant do?

Where does one find a diagnostic specialist?
Thinking I might need one myself... perhaps they send them over from France!
